5 Claude Skills for Small Business

A skill is a saved set of instructions that Claude pulls up on its own when the task fits. These are the 5 I'd install first, in this order, along with what I'd actually do with each one.

October 2026 / 6 minute read

I wrote this in October 2026, and menus move around, so if a button isn't exactly where I say it is, just look nearby.

Install them in this order, because the first one helps you build your own skills later and the second one sets your look so everything you make after it matches. Then you write, check and build.

Each skill below comes with a starter prompt. Once the skill is installed, just fill in the brackets and paste the prompt into a new chat.

Skill 01

skill-creator

What it does. It helps you build your own skills and then tests them to see if they actually work.

How I'd use it. Use it to turn anything you repeat into a skill. My rule is simple: if you've typed the same instructions into Claude 3 times, that should be a skill.

Starter prompt

Use the skill-creator skill. I want to turn a task I do every week into a skill.

The task: [what you do, like "write my Friday update for clients"]
A good example of the finished result: [paste one]
What I always have to fix: [the notes you keep giving Claude]

Ask me questions until you have what you need. Then build the skill and give me a file I can upload.

Skill 02

brandkit

What it does. It makes a brand board for your business with a logo idea, colors, fonts, and examples of how they look in use.

How I'd use it. Set up your colors and fonts first so everything else you make matches, then save the board and hand it to Claude any time you ask for a design.

Starter prompt

Use the brandkit skill to make a brand board for my business.

Business name: [name]
What I sell: [one sentence]
Who buys it: [your customer]
Colors I already use: [hex codes, or "none yet"]
Fonts I already use: [names, or "none yet"]
3 words for how it should feel: [word, word, word]

Show the logo, colors, fonts, and a few examples of them in use.

Skill 03

copywriting

What it does. It writes sales pages, landing pages, and other copy meant to get someone to buy or sign up.

How I'd use it. I'd use it for sales pages and emails, and always paste in something you wrote yourself so the copy sounds like you.

Starter prompt

Use the copywriting skill to write a sales page for my offer.

The offer: [what it is]
Price: $[X]
Who it's for: [your customer]
The problem it fixes: [in their words]
What they get: [list it]
Something I wrote, so you can match my voice: [paste an email or post]

Ask me anything you need first. Then write the headline, each section, and the button text.

Skill 04

seo-audit

What it does. It checks a page for whatever is keeping it out of Google and then tells you what to fix first.

How I'd use it. Run it on your homepage first and fix the top few items before you move on to any other page.

Starter prompt

Use the seo-audit skill on my homepage: [your URL]

What my business does: [one sentence]
What people would search to find me: [2 or 3 phrases]
Where I'm located, if it matters: [city, or "online only"]

Give me the 5 most important fixes in order. For each one, tell me what to change and where to change it. Keep it in plain language.

Skill 05

frontend-design

What it does. It designs web pages and writes the code for them.

How I'd use it. Start by asking for one landing page instead of a full site, because one page is something you can check and fix in an afternoon.

Starter prompt

Use the frontend-design skill to build one landing page for my offer.

The copy: [paste it, or use what the copywriting skill wrote]
My colors: [hex codes]
My fonts: [names]
The one thing I want people to do: [buy, book a call, join the list]

It has to work on a phone. Give me a single HTML file I can open in my browser.

How to install a skill

In the Claude app (claude.ai or the desktop app):

  1. Click your name, then Settings, then Capabilities.
  2. Turn on Code execution and file creation. Skills need it.
  3. Scroll to Skills. If the skill is already on the list, flip it on and you're done.
  4. If it isn't, open the skill on skills.sh and go to its GitHub page. Download the files, then find the folder with the skill's name in it. It has a file called SKILL.md inside.
  5. Zip that one folder.
  6. Back in Skills, click Upload skill and pick the zip file.
  7. Make sure its toggle is on.

In Claude Code: every skills.sh page shows an install command. Copy it, paste it into your terminal, and press Enter.

To check it worked: start a new chat and paste the starter prompt, and while Claude works you'll see it open the skill. If it doesn't, make sure the toggle is on and try again.
